Covered by mist most of the time, the factory peacefully hums even on busy days.

The main part of the name Okayti is its tea, hence we leave no stone unturned when it comes to taking care of our tea garden. Trees are regularly planted so that tea bushes get shade on sunny days. Regular weeding and pruning are performed to make sure that the bushes are supplied with enough soil nutrients. After plucking, the fragile tea leaves are handled with utmost care.
Built as early as 1888, Okayti’s factory is one of the oldest tea factories which still functions flawlessly and produces a whopping 1,50,000 kilograms of the world’s finest tea annually. The machinery and the setup of the factory are well kept which processes the fine tea leaves in an orthodox way.

The only estate that produces ‘OKAY’ tea!

The tea bushes are planted in approximately 208 hectares out of 647 hectares that make up the estate. Set in the marvellously scenic landscape in the Himalayas, it is one of the highest elevation tea estates of Darjeeling.
Experts believe that the environment and location of the estate plays a significant part in the development of the flavours and aroma of a tea. Perhaps, it is the reason why single estate teas produced at Okayti is distinct and elegant. At Okayti, we are proud of our teas and we take utmost care of the estate.

Heritage

The factory is the main space where most of the making of tea is done; it necessarily has to be hygienic. If contaminated the fine and sublime flavours are lost. Okayti takes the hygiene of the garden and its factory very seriously. No lapses are entertained. The grandiose factory is always infused with an overwhelming organic grassy aroma. Constant rolling and firing of the tea leaves emanate a powerful earthy-fruity scent which in a way mutes the industrial appearance.
